O subtítulo da entrevista do ministro Márcio Thomaz Bastos no OESP de hoje é: "Ministro defende ações do governo Lula e diz que presença ostensiva de militares acalmaria a população." Está sem aspas no jornal, naturalmente.
Mas o que o ministro diz na entrevista é outra coisa: "... a presença ostensiva do Exército e da Força Nacional, com helicópteros e tanques, tem efeito dissuasório muito forte. (...) O sujeito fica com medo quando vê que o Exército está na rua."
Fiquei surpreso quando li no subtítulo que tanques nas ruas acalmariam a população. Talvez seja uma questão de geração, mas eu certamente ficaria alarmado.
Já o que o ministro disse, refere-se aos malfeitores. Nada a ver com a população.

The subtitle of the interview of the Minister of Justice Márcio Thomaz Bastos in the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo today is: "Minister defends actions of Lula's administration and says that the ostensive presence of the military would calm the population." It is without quotation marks in the newspaper, naturally.
But what the minister says in the interview is something else: "... the ostensive presence of the Army and the National Guard, with helicopters and tanks, has a very strong dissuasive effect. (...) The person gets scared when he sees that the Army is on the streets."
I was surprised when I read in the subtitle that tanks on the streets would calm the population. Maybe it is a generation thing, but I would certainly be alarmed.
What the minister said, on the other hand, refers to the wrongdoers. Nothing to do with the population.
